My name is Lewis Cherone I live in bude in north cornwall I am the owner of creation surf this is just a little about me and my business - my life!
I was born in 1981 and grew up living on the Isle Of Wight I moved to Cornwall when I was 19 after previously surfing for two years on the island to take my surfing further. Being a single man and fun loving I headed strait to the town of Newquay englands surf capital, after spending a year hear I decided to move back to the island to surf once more and as winter was pretty crappy in cornwall and dead I moved back as soon as I was back on the island I really longed for the punchy and sometimes long waves of cornwall so I moved back the next February hoping at least to get a job in a surf shop as all I wanted to do was surf and be recognised in surfing in some way I spent two to three years in crappy hotel work at the bedruthan step and then laminating wind turbines and boats I would go the surf factorys such as tim mellors and ocean magic and mellow yellow surfboards begging for work and nothing such a hard hard difficult industry to get into I now knew that this is what I wanted to do with my life I wanted to make boards but I wanted to do it right not just go at it blind
Anyhow some time past and I got wind ofa sprayers job at local hero surfboards with the legendary graham bunt (bunty) I applied and begged and begged so he decided tosee me for a interview I admit when graham asked me have I done any spraying and if I know how to mix paint obviously I said yes even though I had absolutely no idea of any of it about 3 weeks went by I was down to the last two so he called us in to do a pinline on a blank I did one it was a cm thick with many wobbles in it but he said he saw potential 4 and half years I was at grahams and I never forgot that
For the time I as at buntys I learnt how to spray and mix paint! setup and insert fins polish which is definitely a fine art finish boards glass pinlines and repairs also a lot about surfboard design
Graham is a fantastic character a true legend a proper Cornishman a fantastic shaper and all round nice guy and he is the only surfer I seen get pitched in the lip board no where near him to come out the white water and do a huge top turn in 8ft plus surf that wave I will never forget also working at locol hero I got to work with another amazing character of the surfing world. All round super nice guy frank mc illiams all the way from oz who previously shaped for sunny garcia and made bamboo boards thi guy took the time to show me the finness side of the surfboard process showing me how to fix dings like they were never there and showing me the ozzy way on everything it was the best time in my life we did not just make boards and work together we were mates all of us and the storys frank and graham told me at lunch and crib were legendary graham being the guy to take no shit used take the piss out of frank but with the utmost respect, was about as common as was the coffee and bacon butty
These guys knew surfboards!
After that I worked for escape surfboards in rock Cornwall with bill atley .
Bill is a another great character there I was working as a sander and doing all the repairs for absolutely anything surfboards kite boards sups and even kayaks and waveskis I learned a lot here with epoxy and realised what a nightmare it is! But the weight characteristics can be amazing really light boards with amazing strength and durability and also putting fins in here to also bill uses any foam to ake excellent boards and I swear ne 5.8 twin fin was lighter then a cup of tea unbelievable stuff
Creation surf
I decided from day one wanted to always have my own boards and this was now coming into plan I been advertising my board repairs in bude for some time takin the emphasis that I want to do the best quality boards and repairs in Cornwall the repairs has really kicked off so much that I needed a premises now I believe I can offer the best repairs and restorations in cornwall and im launching my first series 1 surfboards mid march offering a custom shaped boards from epoxy and polyester with a choice of sprays from 350.00 I have a five year plan with creation and my main objective is quality not quantity and I believe people would pay for this
